Lusaka, Zambia — January 2025 — M31 Research has announced the establishment of the Epsilon Sustainable Development Institute (Epsilon), a dedicated social enterprise set to spearhead impactful development interventions across Zambia and beyond. This marks a strategic expansion of M31's role from research and evaluation to direct implementation of projects aimed at driving measurable and sustainable change.
A Bold Step Towards Implementation
Since its inception, M31 Research has been at the forefront of supporting development partners with data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and policy analysis. Recognizing the critical gap between evidence-based insights and on-the-ground action, M31 is now taking a bold step into implementation through Epsilon Sustainable Development Institute. This initiative will allow M31 to operationalize findings from their extensive research and evaluations into transformative projects.
"At M31, we've spent years uncovering the root causes of development challenges through rigorous research and evaluation. With the launch of Epsilon, we're now positioned to take the next step — implementing interventions directly and ensuring the change we envision becomes a reality," said Chisangu Matome, CEO of M31 Research.
Focus on Measurable and Scalable Impact
Epsilon will prioritize projects with measurable outcomes, leveraging M31's expertise in data management and analysis to monitor, evaluate, and refine interventions in real time. The institute will focus on thematic areas where M31 has already demonstrated significant expertise, including:
- Energy and Natural Resource Management
- Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
- Agriculture and Food Security
- Education and Learning Outcomes
By combining M31 Research's analytical expertise with EPSILON's on-ground implementation capacity, the initiative aims to create a seamless cycle of learning, adaptation, and measurable impact.
A Platform for Collaboration
The Epsilon Sustainable Development Institute will also serve as a platform for collaboration with international NGOs, development agencies, governments, and local communities. Through strategic partnerships, Epsilon seeks to pool expertise, resources, and innovation to address complex development challenges.
"Sustainability is at the heart of our approach. Every project implemented by Epsilon will include robust exit strategies and community ownership models to ensure long-term benefits," added Chisangu Matome.
Looking Ahead
As Epsilon begins operations in 2025, its first projects will focus on high-priority areas identified through M31's extensive research findings. The integration of real-time data feedback loops will enable Epsilon to fine-tune implementation strategies, ensuring accountability, transparency, and maximum impact.
With the establishment of the Epsilon, M31 Research is not only expanding its service portfolio but also reaffirming its commitment to driving meaningful change in the communities it serves.
