What the client needed
UNIDO is implementing Promoting Youth Employment through Construction Equipment Operating Skills Training, a Public-Private Development Partnership between the Government of Zambia, the Embassy of Japan, Hitachi Construction Machinery and UNIDO. The project aims to close the skills gap in Zambia's construction and mining industries through training and career services for unemployed and underemployed youth.
Career services tools had already been piloted under the project at Kitwe Vocational Training Centre (KVTC). For these services to continue after project closure, the KVTC Career Services Team needed the skills and tools to run graduate tracer studies, engage industry partners, and market its programmes on their own.
How M31 Research delivered
M31 Research designs and delivers a three-day in-person workshop for up to ten members of the KVTC Career Services Team, covering graduate tracer studies and Excel-based employability analysis, industry engagement and partnership management, and digital marketing tools.
The assignment follows a competency-based cycle of assess, design, deliver, assess again and report. A pre-training assessment sets the baseline and informs pacing and group work, and learning outcomes are defined for each of the three modules.
Delivery is participatory, using demonstrations, guided practice, case studies, role plays and coaching on real KVTC tools and datasets, including existing Microsoft Forms and Survey123 tracer surveys. A post-training assessment measures progress, and UNIDO approves all materials before delivery.
